Photo to Fabric - Leni Wiener

This workshop is designed as an introduction to the technique utilizing a simple image which will allow most students to finish during the workshop (or come close enough to enable finishing at home).  Instruction will cover discussion of color/value/print scale and how each impact the final artwork; preparing the photo; using a gray scale value card to choose fabric; the step by step process; thread painting the details, and finishing techniques–plus lots of tips and tricks along the way.

Students will be working on the pears pattern (photo above) or explorers (photo left) and should give some thought to the colors they wish to use as they will be bringing their own fabric to the workshop.  The choice of color does not need to be as it is in the sample, or even realistic color.  Have fun, think outside the box.  Remember to bring lots of options, in a variety of values.  The more you have, the more choices when you choose your fabrics.
