Meeting / Lecture

Monday November 5, 2018

Featured Speaker: Lisa Mason

Topic: Modern Quilts

Lisa will talk about her journey in creating modern quilts.

From Lisa's bio, in her own words --------

"   I was first introduced to quilting at the age of 14.  The bicentennial was approaching and I wanted to learn more about quilting, which was enjoying resurgence at the time.  I went to the Fashion Institute of Technology in the early 80s to study graphic design and that was a great education that brought me closer to quilting.  I especially benefited from my color theory classes at FIT.

I found my quilting community about nine years ago when I join the NYC Metro Modern Quilt Guild in New York City.  Our group is very diverse, all different ages and skills, but we embrace and support each other and our efforts.   We meet eight times a year in NYC and show each other what we are working on, and exchange ideas and new techniques.    I was the president of this guild from 2013- 2015 and it was a wonderful experience for me to lead this group of talented artisans.

Quilting has brought me a lot of creative joy over the years.  I have learned so much and gained confidence in my skills and intuition.  But I would say the best part of my creative process is working in a group with other quilters and learning from each other.  There is such a great community and support from people enjoying the same passion.  "
